The Vunilagi Bookclub continues to be fully run by volunteers from Fijian communities, providing a safe and nurturing space for children aged 6-13 to foster a love for reading and learning. In 2025, we remain committed to supporting primary school-aged children through culturally enriched reading sessions.
We are excited to announce a new partnership with Dilkusha Home, where reading sessions are now held every fortnight. These sessions provide additional opportunities for children at Dilkusha to engage with our volunteers, especially on weeks when there are no readings in Nanuku.
Former book club participants who have outgrown the program continue to give back by assisting with reading in the vernacular language, helping younger children in the community to strengthen their connection to language and culture.
We welcome volunteers from the community, organizations, NGOs, social clubs, and individuals to participate in our reading sessions. However, for Dilkusha Home sessions, we ask that volunteers only commit to a week they know they can attend, as transport to Dilkusha has limited capacity.
Our 2025 reading calendar aligns with school terms, public holidays, and key Vunilagi celebrations, with regular updates based on the availability of church halls and volunteers.
At Vunilagi, we are proud to serve two distinct communities with our reading programs: Dilkusha Home and the Nanuku Community. To ensure meaningful and lasting engagement, we invite volunteers to sign up for one of these communities and commit to supporting that community throughout the calendar year.
Each community has its own dedicated calendar of reading sessions, aligned with school terms and local schedules. By signing up, you’ll become part of a focused volunteer group that participates in:
We welcome your enthusiasm, time, and dedication as we work together to create safe, inspiring spaces where children can thrive through the power of reading.
